John Prine is Right..................
It is a "Big Old Goofy World".
I've never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed and if you've been around here much, I'm pretty sure you've figured that out already.
Having made that disclaimer to Einstein Status, I see shit like this and just have to wonder, "WTF were they thinking and why continue to be Dicks about past bad behavior?"
Obama Administration Claims Immunity in 'Shameful' STD Study of Guatemalans-
"Guatemalan prostitutes, prisoners and mental patients who were intentionally exposed to sexually transmitted diseases, without their knowledge or consent, by U.S. researchers in the 1940s, cannot sue the United States argued the Obama Administration on Monday, no matter how shameful and unethical the studies were..."
And the very last paragraph has an interesting little fact-
"The U.S. has been involved in numerous other infamous medical studies on human subjects. The most notorious was the Tuskegee syphilis research on 600 black men in Alabama who were studied without being offered any treatment. The physician involved in that study, Dr. John Cutler, directed the Guatemalan research."
He must have been a real Pip of a Fellow, 'eh?
Until last night I had never heard of the Guatemalan studies. I had heard of the Tuskegee syphilis research before. If you haven't go check out the Wiki page.
That is some seriously ugly shit to do to people.
Yeah, I know it was a different world back then and times really have changed....... But Damn. that's some lowdown shit.
What I don't understand is why not just own up to it and do the right thing?
After all, this is the same Administration that spent the first year going around the world apologizing and bowing to everyone else for the sins of the Nation, right?
Maybe they ought to hit an AA Meeting and consider a few of the 12 Steps.
Here's a few that might be good for starters-
"Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves"
Step 8 - Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all
Step 9 - Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others"
Thank the Lord that the world has changed.
But remember these things the next time someone says, "Oh, but the government would NEVER do anything like that."
Doesn't matter what the topic they are talking about because - They already have a track record.
Gratuitous Picture for a Thursday Afternoon-
