Guitar Monster........

This guys technique is something else.

One hell of a lot of noise and music at one time there. Guys with this kind of talent make me realize how crappy I play.

And I want to feed his hands into a wood chipper.

Ok. Not really. To much.

Check out this one. Totally different style.

Beautiful song that one.

He's the kind of guy a geek like me would enjoy going to see.

Tip of the hat to that old Ornery Bastard for turning me on to this guy.

Good catch.

Now What Do I Do???????

If you've been around here much, you may have picked up on my Hatred for Starbucks.

I was reminded of this while over at Ace of Spades this morning and reading Starbucks breaks with liberal orthodoxy. Allows guns in stores and tells Brady Campaign to get stuffed

This has been an ongoing thing in California where open carry advocates are causing leftist morons like This Guy to soil themselves.

Starbucks has handled this situation sensibly and even handed. The Bradys and like minded lefties are not handling this well at all.
I know this is a shocker for ya.

Where does this leave me?
A gun rights person who hates Starbucks.

I asked why?

Required Reading for Today.........

Via Western Rifle Shooters Comes this very interesting item from Karl Denninger -

How Long Before You Wake Up, Politicos?

"I'm going to write today about a very somber subject. It will be, as it usually is here in one form or another, about math.

First, some background. If you believe that we have "escaped" from the mess that gripped this nation in 2008 and 2009, or that said mess "suddenly appeared" and "nobody saw it coming", stop reading now and have your Thorazine dosage checked. It's way off.

Assuming you accept the truth - that this mess was 20 year or more in the making, that it involved creating credit (that is, debt) which the debtor could never pay, and that it still exists because our government policy has been to extend, pretend and allow lies that should be considered accounting fraud and result in prison sentences, then you're on the right page to understand the rest of this missive. Again, if not, go check your Thorazine dosage.

Yes, I know all about the stock market rally from last March. I know all about the claimed GDP "improvement." But I also know that we got both by adding more than $2 trillion in debt to the United States - or roughly 14% of GDP - over the space of the last 18 months. That's about 10% of GDP annualized, and incidentally, a 10% GDP contraction is the common economist's definition of an Economic Depression....."

I've been reading this guy for awhile now and though I can't always follow the in depth economic and market wonkiness I CAN understand that he's been making the correct calls about the economy for at least the last 3-4 years.

I figure that gives him credibility in my book.

You really should go read it.

In that same theme, Michael from Innocent Bystanders had this post-

Ruh Roh — People Are Worried About U.S. Bankruptcy, and Insuring the Risk

"The price of credit default swaps on U.S. Treasury securities is rising......"

Another, go read it and think about it post.

While I'm Thinking About It............

Is it just me or does Bill O'Reilly need a good swift kick in the nutsack?

Damn, that is one ignorant asshole.

Instapundit makes an interesting observation about this

"BILL O’REILLY SUPPORTS GUN CONFISCATION DURING WEATHER EMERGENCIES? That’s funny. O’Reilly calls the opposing position “extreme,” but such gun confiscation is illegal under federal statute, and as a matter of constitutional law; in fact, the city of New Orleans lost a lawsuit over gun confiscation during Katrina. But then, O’Reilly’s no libertarian, to put things mildly. And he’s consistently weak on the law, also to put things mildly. Still, he should have been better briefed for this show, as he came across looking like a fool, and making his “extreme” guest look sober and well-informed by comparison."

O'Reilly isn't stupid. No real excuse for this shit.

World’s biggest coal company brings U.S. government to court in climate fraud

"The world’s largest private sector coal business, the Peabody Energy Company (PEC) has filed a mammoth 240-page “Petition for Reconsideration,” a full-blown legal challenge against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency."

Mr. Peabody's Coal Company is gonna start some real shit with this.
And that's a good thing.

The last paragraph is my favorite part -

"Thereby, from accomplishing their civil task Peabody will lend further weight to the likelihood of criminal charges being brought against those individuals implicated in international fraud on the largest scale ever known."

Maybe I'll get to see some of these frauds do the perp walk yet.
I seriously doubt it but a boy can dream.

Here's John Prine and his song about Mr Peabody -
Nice intro on this.

So Tiger Woods Had a Press Conference Today???????

Who the hell cares?

I'm pretty ambivalent about Tiger and his fidelity problems. No. That's not entirely correct. It's more like, I could give less than a shit about anything Tiger Woods does or says.

He's a non-factor for me.
In my life, he doesn't effect anything in anyway.
None - Zip - Nada & I suspect that's true of 90+ percent of the population.

So why the big deal about Tiger Woods?
really gives a shit about his personal problems?

And WHY would anyone care?

That's the part that makes no damn sense to me. He cheated on his wife.
OK. What the hell business is that of anyone else?

This kinda weird celebratory infatuation has to be a symptom of some sort of sickness.
I'm sure these guys have it covered somewhere
According to the APA, everyone's got a zillion billable diagnoses so there has to be something in all that BullShit of theirs to cover this phenomena.

But hey. I could be wrong about that.
Not real likely but possible i suppose.

Just an observation here on my part about, what seems like, the only topic or news in the entire friggin world today.

Yes, I know I've asked about this before, but I get an excuse to use my great demotivator again today!

You REALLY Didn't Do That, Did You??????

School used student laptop webcams to spy on them at school and home -

"According to the filings in Blake J Robbins v Lower Merion School District (PA) et al, the laptops issued to high-school students in the well-heeled Philly suburb have webcams that can be covertly activated by the schools' administrators, who have used this facility to spy on students and even their families. The issue came to light when the Robbins's child was disciplined for "improper behavior in his home" and the Vice Principal used a photo taken by the webcam as evidence. The suit is a class action, brought on behalf of all students issued with these machines."

And if you're thinking, "No way. Nobody is that stupid". You'd be wrong.

School district admits installing covert webcam activation software on student laptops, denies wrongdoing

I Got Nuthin'.........

To say lately.
So things have been a bit sparse here as of late.

Not that there's any shortage a shit going on I could rail about.
There's always plenty of that and more everyday. I'm just in one of those midwinter low spots right now and will probably stay that way till we get some regular sunshine back.

I'm getting the seed starting program setup tomorrow. Maybe if I lay under the grow lights it'll perk me up some!

Spring is coming soon and I'm going to have to figure out a way to effectively utilize the HoopHouse this year. Some minor modifications are in order when the weather gets better. We'll see if I can do a little better this year. I may even move the HoopHouse out to the new area.

A garden plan and a log book is in order this year also. I generally just start planting things without any real plan and wing it. I'm gonna try to keep a log of what and where I put things.

As an example of why I need this, I already forgot which trees are planted where from 2 years ago. Sure I can tell an apple tree from a peach tree but which type of apple or peach is it?

Damned if I know now.

Just one more area of self improvement on my part to be addressed.

There's going to be a lot more area in the garden this year too. I don't know that I really need it all but I'm going to use it anyway.
I'm thinking that most of this area will be used for semi-permanent things like berries, grapes, rhubarb and the big row of asparagus I planted last fall.
Getting those things out of the raised boxes will free up a lot of room in the main garden area.

Thinking of Spring a lot here today.

I fired up the BigBluePlasticMotorcycle today and let it run for a bit. I should order a rear tire now and have it ready for when the weather breaks. A good rear tire is all it needs.
Lord knows, I could use a good long ride.

Once Again, Global Warming is Trying to Cripple Me...........

I just finished shoveling all the Global Warming Residue from the driveway again & my back is protesting about it.

But thanks to Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, at least I won't make the mistake of confusing things like this-
"weather is not the same thing as climate"

15 years of declining temperature "is not the same thing as climate".

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Jane. I feel a hell of a lot better now.

Not really.
My back is getting "stiffer than a wedding pecker" from all the shoveling.

Well thank you very much, Senator Asshole! That's a sweet Valentine gift, even if it's a day late.

I really wish to take credit for this decision personally.
I'm gonna claim credit for this right now and say that his decision was based on the email I sent him after the Christmas Eve, "Fuck You Peasants" vote on health care.

Yep. I'm gonna go ahead and claim that he cried a river and decided that he really is a "Stupid Son of a Bitch".

Yeah, I know he never even saw my letter but damn if I'm gonna let facts get in the way today.

I'm a very lucky fella. I have good friends that help me when I need it.

My water heater was in the process of crapping out on me and I bought a new one the other day.

Kaleb, one of the young guns I work with came over and helped me with the installation today.
No. That's not quite accurate. He basically came over, pushed me out of the way and did it all himself.
G-d love 'em.

He even did the heavy work of getting the old one outside. That's a friend for ya. One that knows you have a bad back and doesn't even give you the opportunity to hurt yourself.

The Good Old Days............

Tam @ View from the porch Posted something that sparked some old brain cells that had been sitting in neutral for quite some time.

She quotes a Saturday Evening Post article from 1910 about women and handguns.
She ends with this -
"This was a full page ad in a national, mainstream general-interest magazine. Interested readers could put $15 in cash or cheque in an envelope and receive a brand-new Savage 10-shot .32 caliber semiautomatic pistol in the mail. It was a different world."

Yes it certainly was.

As a youngster, my goal in life was to become Jim Bridger or Liver Eatin' Johnson.

Earnest Hemingway or Robert Ruark were also considered as acceptable alternatives to the aforementioned mountain men at the time
as far as optimal life choices to emulate.

I had subscriptions to Field and Stream and Outdoor Life magazine and was a member of the Outdoor Life Book Club at the tender age of 12. This was financed from a paper route, lawn cutting, scut work for the neighbors and farmers in the area and anything else I could do to rustle up money.

I hit the big time at age 13 when I went to work at the Texaco gas station in town. This allowed me the finances to start
ordering mail order catalogs from the advertisers in the back of the magazines.

Whoo Hoo!! A whole new world opened up.
Now this before the Gun Control Act of 1968 was in existence and, as Tam mentioned earlier, just about anyone could send a check and in a few weeks the Postman would bring a rifle to your house.

One place out of Kansas City that dealt in Army Surplus was called, P&S Sales. I bought a ton of crap from them for camping, etc.
I still have the 1943 issue US Army cold weather overcoat w/ liner I bought from them for $4.00. Lucky for me they sent one that was way to big for my skinny ass and it fits me still today.

Over the years I lost the Rucksack, Messkit, Sleeping Bags and other shit I ordered from them.

But every time I received a catalog from them the first thing I'd look at were the rifles.

I was amazed.
German Mausers for $20.00
British Enfields for $15.00 to $20.00
US 1903 Bolt Actions for $20.00
US M1 Garand Rifles for $40.00
Italian Carcano and Japanese rifles $10.00 per or 3 for $25.00

The only problem was the line on the bottom of the page that read - "Must be 18 years or older to purchase firearms".

I whined, pleaded and begged my dad to help me out with this problem and he always told me no.

God love him. My Old Man was a great guy and the best Dad a kid could ever ask for, but I never understood his, "You don't need any of those old piece of shit rifles" answer.
I never did understand that, but I suspect Mom might have had something to do with it.

That or it might have had something to do with the fact I was goofy as shit.

I finally quit asking after a couple of years figuring I'd just buy them myself when I turned 18.

And by that time the gun control laws had changed and I was screwed.

And I still don't own any of those rifles.

One of these days I'll hopefully be able to own a 1903 Springfield and an M1 Garand.

In the meantime I'll just sit here and think of the good old days. That ain't so bad an idea.

SnowBall Warming Work..........

Just got in from shoveling some more of Al Gores handiwork for about 5 hours straight.
My aching back hates Al and his damn Global Warming.

While out there shoveling I caught myself thinking of John Kay and Steppenwolf.

It appears that I'm not the only one who has been inconvenienced by this damned Global Warming-
NOAA Global Warming Announcement Canceled Due To Blizzard

"As D.C. continued to dig out from Snowmageddon and is keeping an eye on another storm system, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was busy making a climate change announcement.

NOAA, part of the Department of Commerce, is going to be providing information to individuals and decision-makers through a new NOAA Climate Service office. “More and more, Americans are witnessing the impacts of climate change in their own backyards, including sea-level rise, longer growing seasons, changes in river flows, increases in heavy downpours, earlier snowmelt and extended ice-free seasons in our waters. People are searching for relevant and timely information about these changes to inform decision-making about virtually all aspects of their lives,” the release says."

This shit would be even funnier if it wasn't so dangerous and expensive. The Church of Global Warming members are going to have to figure out they've been had eventually.
Hell, it may take another ice age but even that will be blamed on Warming.

And George Bush. Because he's still the root of all evil in this world.

Monday, Post SuperBowl Suicide Watch.........
Been busy today.
Picked up the Woodstove and brought it home this afternoon. It's still sitting in the back of the truck until I can get a bit of help to wheel it in the house so it's got a tarp over it for now.

Not like there's a big rush or anything, I still need to figure out what I need to order for a chimney yet. But every step gets us that much closer and that's a good thing.

Well the Colts got beat in the SuperBowl and I'm keeping an eye on a couple of my friends as a suicide watch sorta thing. We were able to watch quite a bit of the game while at work yesterday and it looked like the Saints
just outplayed them.

Congrats to the Saints for a good game. I'm a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan so this ain't a big thing for me.

Looks like more snow coming our way in the next 24-48 hours. Oh well. It's Winter and I shouldn't be to surprised I guess.

In the news, it appears that Congressman John Murtha has decided to assume room temperature.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. The rotten SOB.

Global Warming Wins Again........

Snowing like hell out again. Has been cold and raining-sleeting-snowing all damn day.

Remember that Spring is only about 43(?) days away. I'm ready.

Went to Lowes this afternoon and spent a damn fortune. Bought a water heater and a wood burning stove.

Got a good price on both of them, but Dayum.......... Lots of money.
According to the wife, the water heater was a definite need and I'm all about keeping the Queen happy. And taking cold showers because there's no hot water sucks. That's next weeks project to install.

The wood burner is something we've needed for awhile now too.

Just a matter of being ready for the next time the power goes out when it's cold.

It's happened before and one of the benefits of living around here is wood is pretty easy to come by for labor only. Not to mention how much it will help with the heat bills.

Still need to source the piping for the stove. And I know how much that shit costs, but it'll pay for itself the first time we have a power outage and over the course of a few years the savings will make it worthwhile.

Not to mention the peace of mind.

SuperBowl Sunday coming right up and folks around here are getting Indy Colts crazy. I'll be working so I'm gonna miss it but the wife can record it for me and I'll watch it Monday.

Get Your KY Jelly Now.........
It looks like you're gonna need it.

About 3 weeks ago I posted a link to the Market Ticker and Asked Folks to read it and comment.

Well it looks like this is beginning to move.

From the Western Rifle Shooters today comes several links that verify this, soon to be theft of our savings by the government.

"The Department of Labor and the Department of the Treasury (the "Agencies") are currently reviewing the rules under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the plan qualification rules under the Internal Revenue Code (Code) to determine whether, and, if so, how, the Agencies could or should enhance, by regulation or otherwise, the retirement security of participants in employer-sponsored retirement plans and in individual retirement arrangements (IRAs) by facilitating access to, and use of, lifetime income or other arrangements designed to provide a lifetime stream of income after retirement. The purpose of this request for information is to solicit views, suggestions and comments from plan participants, employers and other plan sponsors, plan service providers, and members of the financial community, as well as the general public, on this important issue."

You do realize where this is gonna go right?
Your IRA, 401K and most any other retirement account that you have been working on is gonna get nicked and all your gonna be left with is an IOU signed by President Obama.

No kiss.
No reach around.
No Nothing.

The Treasury Is Soliciting Your Feedback Regarding The Proposed Annuitization Of 401(k)
Zero Hedge has the Document posted and you can read it there.

Yes, I know it doesn't come right out and say exactly that are gonna swipe your money. But do you really expect them to say that?
There's always some "For the Children" reason given for what they do so they can convince enough folks to give legs to these kind of things.

It would behoove you to go read the original Market Ticker Article and then start following the links Here.

Now I'm the last guy you want to be getting financial advice from, OK?
But I put these things up here so at least you have a heads up and can start figuring out what you want to do about it.

Practical Tools for Practical People........

I've carried a pocket knife of some sort most of my life. For the last 15 years or so it's been a Swiss Army Knife. Good all purpose tool to have.

As most of you know there are various configurations of these knives with different blades, tools etc.

Here's a version I hadn't seen before-

This is Why I will Always Have a Job.........

From the Detroit
Man burned when human rocket experiment goes downhill

"A 62-year-old township man was treated for burns and suspected eye damage after he tried to turn himself into a human rocket on a sledding hill this weekend, police said.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 6000 block of Town View about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in response to a man who had burns to more than 18 percent of his body. The victim -- who had a reputation of doing crazy things at parties, according to investigators -- had made an explosive backpack by filling a motor muffler with gas and gun powder. He placed aluminum on both ends of the muffler and lit it, trying to get a rocket launch effect."

Yep. My job is safe as long as there are folks like this around.

We have a saying in the ER about shit like this. "Don't fuck with Darwin".

do have to admit that I harbor a certain admiration for guys who come up with these kinda crazy shit ideas and then actually drink enough liquor to convince themselves that- "I know this may sound stupid but this may just work!!!"

They laughed at Christopher Columbus too, ya know.
And darn if this isn't the first thing that comes to mind.
The Snake River jump was really the first thing, but the only video I liked I wasn't able to embed here.

I loved Evil Knievel & have seen that video a zillion times but it still makes my pucker factor dial up pretty high.

Cold & Clear Monday.........

Got a little Sun out there today and that is always appreciated.

Speaking of having some sunshine lightning up the Cockroaches- Doug Ross has some very interesting info on how Madam Pelosi is fucking the US Taxpayer and probably breaking the law in the process.

"Is it a legitimate use of military jets to transport the Speaker of the House and her favored Congressional coterie for routine travel? Even if you believe it is -- and, personally, I do not -- any rational taxpayer would admit that it is monumental waste of money. Military flights cost between $5,000 and $20,000 per hour to operate. The Speaker and her passengers routinely reimburse the Air Force $120 to $400 for each flight.

Since Nancy Pelosi took over as Speaker in 2006, she's rung up millions in military travel expenses to commute between San Francisco and Washington.

Worse still, she also appears to have requisitioned entire flights for the personal use of her children and grandchildren. That is, unaccompanied by any member of Congress, her kids, in-laws and grandchildren are utilizing entire military passenger jets for their routine travel needs."
(Emphasis in original)

This revelation comes only days after her "$1000 per week Bar Tab horseshit was unveiled.

Ross was all over that too

You would be well advised to read this and remember it when you hear these bastards telling us how we are gonna have to suck it up because "times are tough".

I have no illusions about any of this changing the dynamics in, Sodom on the Potomac.

Damn unfortunate but true. We're stuck with these assholes for awhile.
